My sweet sick girl...

Kiara has been sick since we got back from Phoenix. She has a horrible cough, runny nose, and a temperature. I took her to the doctor on Thursday and he thought it was allergies and he put her on 2 allergy medications in addition to the one she is already on. She doesn't seem much better and her fever has gotten higher, so we are going back into the doctor tomorrow, Tuesday, morning. I feel bad for her because there is only so much TV you can watch! She loves school and she hasn't been there in over a week.

This all worries me a bit because 1 1/2 years ago Kiara had 'fevers of unknown origin', code for the doctors have no idea what is going on. They lasted for 6 months and they thought she was developing systemic onset juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. But, they eventually went away! Those months brought me closer to my Heavenly Father and taught me a lot. I also view life a lot differently since then and don't sweat the small stuff as much. I have also been proud of myself since then to not freak out every time she seemed to be sick. This is the first time, I am a bit worried that we are going to go back into the world of the unknown! But, I know my Heavenly Father is watching over my sweet girl and will take care of her. (and her mother, too!)

The pictures above are from my sister-in-law's baby shower this weekend. Obviously, Kiara doesn't look too sick! She acts pretty normal when she has Ibuprofen in her. But, she probably had a little too much fun with her cousins because I had to take her home to get her cough medication because she couldn't stop coughing!

Monday Weigh In - SUCCESS!!

I am happy to report that I lost 0.8 pounds this week! I am so happy that I have been able to stick with it and get my weight to go in the right direction! It feels great to succeed in something. Sometimes as a stay at home mom, I don't feel like I really succeed or accomplish much. As soon as the laundry is done, there is more to do, as soon as dinner is prepared, there are dishes to do, etc... It is hard to stick with a eating and exercise program when my time isn't always my time. Kiara has been sick this entire week, so it felt great that in spite of that I was still able to get my exercise in and have a weight loss!

A taste of Uzbekistan...

So, before we left for Phoenix, Kiara and I got to visit with a family that has adopted from Uzbekistan!! It was so nice to talk to someone who has completed the process and see that it actually can happen!! They have also adopted two children from Russia. Katie, thanks again for taking the time out of your busy day. We had a great time!

The boy in the stroller is the one adopted from Uzbekistan.

Phoenix...

Kiara and I took a short trip to Phoenix to spend some time with my sister, her fiance', his two girls and my parents. We got to see where they will be having the wedding and subsequent activities. We might have even found my matron of honor dress. (Doesn't maid of honor sound so much better?) The weather was perfect and Phoenix is beautiful this time of year. Kiara did a great job traveling, too! Unfortunately, my sister came home really sick and Kiara is home from school today, too, with a cough! :(
You can see the crazy family to be above.

Weigh Ins!

I forgot to update you on my weekly weigh in last week. I basically stayed the same, gained 0.2 pounds.

This week, I have been out of town since Friday! But, I tried to be better than when I was out of town last time and I guess it worked! I lost 0.8 pounds, so I am back down to where I was when I lost a little over 2 pounds! So, I need to get back to being good and eating properly. Hopefully, next week when I report in, I can report at least a little bit of a loss. I am afraid my out of town eating might catch up with me next week, so I won't get my hopes up for a big loss!

Leslie update

Thanks to those of you who prayed for Leslie. The spots in her lungs are most likely pneumonia. Still pray that she still recovers quickly, so she can feel healthy again!

Please pray for Leslie!

Awhile back I asked for prayers for a friend of mine from college, Leslie. Well, she needs your prayers again. She had been doing really well, but has developed a cough and her chest x-ray showed some troubling spots in her lungs. She is going in for a CT scan tomorrow. It could just be a virus, but I can't imagine what her and her family will go through until they get the results back. If you want to check out the latest, here is the link to Leslie's blog: http://forleslie.blogspot.com/

60 (or so) questions about ME

Some of my bloggin' buddies have been answering this questionaire to get to know each other better and to pass the time. So, blame this one on Jennifer because she started it! And, yes I know there's questions missing Jennifer didn't give us all the questions. Keep in mind, I answered these questions in 3 sittings on 3 different days.

1. What is in the back seat of your car right now?

Well, I drive a minivan, so I am not sure what exactly constitutes my back seat. There is a Cubs blanket, umbrella, communication books my husband and I are working through, DVDs, a booster seat, and jumper cables.

2. When was the last time you threw up?

2 weeks ago when I had the flu. I didn't know my body had that much in it!

3. What's your favorite curse word?

I really don't swear very often. I remember once when I was probably 12 or 13 a friend and her sister made me swear while they taped me!

4. Name 3 people who made you smile today?

Kiara of course. My daughter's friend who broke her leg and it wearing this little boot. It is so cute when she walks. Ute, when she called me today because she knew I was having a bad day! Thank, Ute, you are the best!

5. What were you doing at 8 am this morning?

Sitting on my couch with the laptop looking into Russian adoptions.

6. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?

Sitting in my living room eating pizza with my family. Yeah, not so good for my diet.

7. What will you be doing 3 hours from now?

At a friend's house watching the end of the Miss USA pageant. I don't usually watch these, but they have made it into a game betting on who will win and stuff. So, it sounds like fun and a nice way to meet some new people and take my mind off of adoption.

8. Have you ever been to a strip club?

NO WAY!!

9. What is the last thing you said aloud?

Don't forget, Kiara still needs to poop! (Unfortunately, that is true!)

10. What is the best ice cream flavor?

That is a hard choice. But, I would say Coldstone cake batter with grahamn crackers, fudge and carmel mixed in.

11. What was the last thing you had to drink?

Diet Pepsi with lime

12. What are you wearing right now?

jeans, a tank top and a long sleeved T-shirt

13. What was the last thing you ate?

Nick & Willy's Mediteranean pizza! (Don't be jealous, Holli!)

14. Have you bought any new clothing items this week?

Only a dress on clearance at Target for Kiara.

15. When was the last time you ran?

Wednesday, I ran for 15 minutes as part of my workout. I am trying to run 3 times a week and increasing my time by very little each week. I am hoping to run a 10K in September.

16. What's the last sporting event you watched?

Ryan had the Cubs game on tonight.

18. Who is the last person you emailed?

Melissa, one of my Uzbek friends.

19. Ever go camping?

Ryan and I went once after we were married. I don't know if I will ever again. The sounds of racoons outside my nylon tent just don't make for a good night's sleep.

20. Do you have a tan?

Only on my arms and chest from a self-tanner. I use to be a fake baker until last September when I went and had some spots checked and they weren't cancerous but are basically spots old people get. I haven't been back to the tanning bed since.

24. Do you drink your soda from a straw?

Of course from my Polar Pops and in a restaurant.

25. What did your last IM say?

I don't know how to look that up. But, I know it was to my sister talking about getting together on Saturday.

26. Are you someone's best friend?

That is a really good question. I have some close friends, but I don't think I am anyone's best friend. It is hard to develop those bonds when everyone is going in a million different directions. I do miss having that close bond that you don't have with anyone else.

27. What are you doing tomorrow?

That is also a good question. The past 2 weekends I have been sick or out of town. So, hopefully I will exercise, scrapbook a little, and then we are having dinner at my parent's house with my sister and her fiance'.

28. Where is your mom right now?

In bed at her house as far as I know.

29. Look to your left, what do you see?

An empty place in my bed and a dresser.

30. What color is your watch?

I haven't worn a watch for awhile.

31. What do you think of when you think of Australia?

A month long missions trip I took when I was in college. A beautiful country, but a very long plane ride!

32. Would you consider plastic surgery?

I highly doubt it.

33. What is your birthstone?

Alexandrite

34. Do you go in at a fast food place or just hit the drive thru?

Most of the time I go in, but occasionally use the drive thru.

35.How many kids do you want?
Before the adoption process began, I would have said 2. But, now for some reason, I could see having 3. Especially, if our second child is 5 or 6 years younger than Kiara. I could see having number 2 and 3 closer together in age.

36. Do you have a dog?
No.

37. Last person you talked to on the phone?
Ryan. I called him to tell him to come out and help me bring in the groceries.

38. Have you met anyone famous?
I don't think I have officially met anyone famous. I have been close to famous people. I went to the Today show and got really close to Ann Curry. Ryan and I went to LA a couple of years ago and we went to the Dr. Phil Show, Soap Talk and Deal or No Deal. So, I was really close to Dr. Phil, Howie Mandel, Lisa Rinna, and Ty Pennington.

39. Any plans today?
Well, since it is 9 PM, I plan on finishing watching Big Brother and maybe an episode of Lost and then going to bed.

40. How many states have you lived in?
Only 2. Illinos and Indiana.

41. Ever go to college?
Yes. Taylor University in Indiana.

42. Where are you right now?
I am laying in my bed with my laptop and watching TV.

43. Biggest annoyance in your life right now?
That is easy! Not having a referral and things not going smoother in Uzbekistan.

44. Last song listened to?
Whatever was playing at the gym when I was there today.

46. Are you allergic to anything?
No.

47. Favorite pair of shoes you wear all the time?
My pink and black Pumas. Love them!

48. Are you jealous of anyone?100% of the time?
Nope. I like being me.

51. What time is it right now?
9:06 PM

52. Do any of your friends have children?
Yes, most of them do.

53. Do you eat healthy?
A lot of the time. But I love my bread and sweets.

54. What do you usually do during the day?
Get Kiara ready and off to preschool, devotions, workout, shower, housework, get lunch ready, play with Kiara, dinner, Singsations work, and probably a lot of things I am forgetting.

55. Do you hate anyone right now?
I don't think I could ever hate anyone. We are all God's children.

56. Do you use the word 'hello' daily?
Probably all the time. That would be interesting to see how many times I say it a day.

58. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
32 on June 15th!

59. Have you ever been to Six Flags?
Yes, in both Chicago and St. Louis.

60. How did you get one of your scars?
I have a scar on the pad of my left pointer finger. In college, during a rain storm on my way to class, the horizontal rain broke my umbrella and the broken part of the pole gouged my finger.

St. Louis

We packed a lot into our trip to St. Louis. But, I guess you have to when Ryan's vacation days are basically being saved for our adoption trips. But, he did take a half a day and we left after lunch for St. Louis. First, we went to the Magic House. This is St. Louis's children's museum and it is great. Kiara really enjoyed it!
We ate at the Elephant Bar that night. It was good, but it just didn't match up to the first time we ate there. The service wasn't that good and by that time we were all really tired and had a whiney 4 year old with us! The next day, I went to my scrapbooking convention while the rest of the family went to a Cardinals game. I about fainted when Kiara showed me what Ryan bought her at the ball game!!! He bought her a Cardinals Build A Bear!!! For those of you who don't know my husband, he is a HUGE Cubs fan!!
So, while they were at the game I shopped until I dropped! I did take one class, which was a lot of fun, but went way too fast. So, I just finished up the pages when I got home. I learned a few new things, like how to make button flowers! That evening we went to the St. Louis Mills mall, which is really nice. It has a lot to do for kids. It has a carousel, train, play area, minature golf, and a couple of arcades. It also has the NASCAR Speedway, which Ryan and Kiara tried out.The room we stayed in the first night reeked of smoke and there were no other rooms since there were so many scrappers in the hotel, so the second night we stayed in the city. So, for our last day we went to the Zoo. It is a great zoo, especially since it is FREE!! You pay $10 to park unless you find a place on the street. You pay extra to go to the children's zoo area, which I would not recommend, there wasn't a whole lot there. There is a goat pen, where a goat took my map out of my back pocket and proceeded to EAT it!! I don't think I will be going anywhere near a goat for awhile! You also have to pay to ride the train, but at the end of our day someone stopped us and gave us train tickets they weren't going to use! What a blessing!
After the zoo, we made a stop at PF Chang's and were on our way home! PF Chang's was great as always. I get to go back in a couple of weeks because Kiara and I are flying to Phoenix and leaving from St. Louis. I recently discovered a friend in this Uzbek adoption journey lives in this area and I will be meeting her and her new son before we fly out. I am so excited!! St. Louis is a great place to go with kids. There is a lot more I would like to go back and do.

Monday Weigh In

Well, St. Louis was a lot of fun! I also ate a lot of good food. I will try to post more about our trip later. But, I wanted to get in my weekly weigh in, since I am already late. I gained 0.6 pounds, which I was fine with since I basically ate whatever I wanted this weekend. So, this next week, I am hoping to take off the 0.6 I gained and maybe a bit more.

Howdy Partner

Today was Cowboy/Cowgirl day at school. So, I thought I would share a picture of our cowgirl.

Below is a set of scrapbook pages I recently completed. It is of Kiara and her friend Drake. They grew up together until they were 3 years old. They were the best of friends. Drake's family moved away right after Kiara turned 3. So, I put a scrapbook page together that kind of shows how they grew up together. We miss Drake! I also miss scrapping with Holli! I don't know how to take pictures of my scrapbook pages, so they aren't the best pictures. Also, I couldn't figure out how to get two pictures to sit side by side. So, if anyone has any tips in those areas, I would love to hear them. Sadly, I think I started this page before our friends left and I just got it completely done, over a year later!
